From the Loft!

Inspired by the excellent collective music (song and instrument) at the St. Matthew Mass Mob on Sunday, June 7, 2015, St. Matthew’s Parish Choir would like to invite any and all interested musicians from the greater Archdiocesan community to join our choir family.

The choir meets for rehearsals at 8:30 on Sunday mornings, and sings for the 10:00 a.m. Sunday Mass, as well as holding select concerts throughout the liturgical year.

The St. Matthew Parish Choir has a long running tradition of leading the community in song and providing beautiful choral music "for the glory of God and the inspiration of the soul" – (J.S. Bach). If you are interested in joining, please send an inquiry to Jim Renfer,

St. Matthew’s Minister of Music, at renferj@stmatthewdetroit.com, by phone at 248-924-5388, or meet him in the Loft following the 10:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday. You may also contact the rectory office, 313-884-4470, and your message will be passed on to Jim.

For the glory of God and the inspiration of the soul"  J.S. Bach

Calling All Bookworms!

Do you enjoy reading? Do you like to meet new friends and engage in conversation and fellowship? Then consider joining St. Matthew’s Faith & Fun Book Club! We are soliciting interest in such an endeavor before meeting dates, times, and locations are established.

However, it is suggested that the club meet six times per year (approximately once every two months) for an informal discussion of the book (about 60 minutes) while enjoying a light meal together such as pizza or subs. Annual dues to cover cost of refreshments / meals would be $10 / person. Books can be purchased through the club or obtained on your own.

If you would like to participate, please send an email with your name, email address, and phone number to admin@stmatthewdetroit.com (Patrick Lusch).

You may also contact the parish rectory office at 313-884-4470 to express your interest. Please respond by August 7th in order to kick off the season in September! Let’s make this effort successful, we are looking for at least 10 participants. Ask a friend, or two! All are welcome!

Mission Appeal

At the weekend liturgies of July 18 and 19, a Pallottine priest, Fr. Henry Rebello SAC, will be here to speak about the missionary work of the Pallottine Missionaries in India. Fr. Henry is presently serving as an Associate Pastor of Our Lady of Loretto and St. Valentine Parishes in Redford. Prior to this, he worked in India for a number of years and has knowledge of the missions.

The congregation of the Pallottine Fathers and Brothers founded by St. Vincent Pallotti is present in 50 countries all over the world. In India, the Pallottines have been involved in the work of evangelization for the last 64 years. Recently, they have taken up mission work in Taiwan. The Pallottines work in partnership with laity throughout the world furthering the church’s mission to renew faith and rekindle love. The help and sup port of many generous people makes it possible to continue God’s work. Your own efforts to support the Missions all over the world are greatly appreciated. Know that when you give to the  missions, you give to a good cause.
